The difference between casting flange and forged flange
The casting flange has accurate blank shape and size, small processing volume, low cost, but has casting defects (pores, cracks, inclusions); the internal structure of the casting is poor (if it is a cutting part, the streamline is worse); forged flange Generally, it has lower carbon content than casting flanges and is not easy to rust. Forgings have better streamlined shape, denser structure, and better mechanical properties than casting flanges;
Improper forging process will also cause large or uneven crystal grains, hardening cracks, and forging costs higher than casting flanges. Forgings can withstand higher shear and tensile forces than castings. The advantage of castings is that they can produce more complicated shapes and the cost is relatively low; the advantage of forgings is that the internal structure is uniform, and there are no harmful defects such as pores and inclusions in the casting;
According to our experience, the difference between casting flanges and forged flanges is distinguished from the production process. For example, centrifugal flanges are a type of casting flanges. Centrifugal flanges belong to the precision casting method to produce flanges. Compared with ordinary sand casting, the structure of this type of casting is much finer and the quality is improved a lot. It is not easy to have problems such as loose structure, pores, and trachoma.
In addition to casting flanges and forged flanges, FLUIDO also understands that another production process is rolled flanges. The production process and characteristics of rolled flanges are explained as follows:
The cost of rolled flanges is lower than forged flanges. But some oversized flanges cannot be forged. Most of these products are weighed by theoretical weight. In the calculation, the weight of the waterline, spigot, bolt hole, and chamfer is not reduced. The price of flat products is lower, but if there are processes such as processing dovetail grooves, the price of large flanges will be higher. The theoretical weight is calculated according to the above formula.
